Engine

As with the original model like the first-generation model, the 2022 GR 86 comes with a naturally aspirated four-cylinder horizontally opposed to the vertical that is supplied by Subaru. It was a bit brisk on acceleration in the previous model, which was 6.2 seconds from 0 to 60 mph, however, the 2022 model is expected to be faster due to a larger 2.4-liter engine that makes 228 horsepower. Six-speed manuals continue to be the standard transmission for the GR 86 and a six-speed auto is available. In our initial testing drive, we noticed that the more robust engine seemed more vibrant and sound better, and the car’s razor-sharp handling gave us thrills in the roadway and the Monticello Motor Club race track. Despite its handling abilities, however, the suspension is flexible enough to be an everyday driver. If we have the chance to test the brand new GR 86 and its twin model, Subaru BRZ Subaru BRZ, we’ll update this story with results from the tests.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

2022 86 hasn’t yet received fuel economy estimations from EPA however, the previous generation was rated at 24 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway, and 27 mpg when fitted with the automatic six-speed. The manual model did not fare quite as well. If we can run the new version through the 200 miles of highway fuel efficiency test, we’ll bring this story up with the results. For more information on the 86’s efficiency in terms of fuel consumption go to the EPA’s website.

Interior & Exterior

Its 2022 GR 86 retains the proportions and size of the previous model. This GR 86 and the Subaru BRZ are the only two models in the sports car market that are affordable because they are the only two models that have seats for four. The rear seats are particularly comfortable or large however they are great to have. They’re both Subaru as well as the Toyota models have similar insides save from a few changes to the dashboard, which surrounds the infotainment screen.
