2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata – Mazda has shown that it’s not a fan by eliminating the automatic transmission on two of the MX-5’s three models for the 2022 version year. This is huge because it’s often the opposite with the latest performance cars. The Chevy Corvette for example recently discarded the manual gearbox completely. Mazda continues to save manuals, and we’re grateful for it.
2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata Redesign
It was previously available on all models, the automatic six-speed transmission that comes with paddle shifters is only available only on the top-of-the-line Grand Touring model, which features 17-inch dark silver wheels and newly-available Terracotta seat covers. The Sport models and Club, models are equipped with the manual 6-speed as is the only best way to buy the Miata regardless. Additionally, the Club model can come with a Brembo BBS Recaro option that includes Brembo brakes 17-inch BBS wheels forged by Brembo, and heated Recaro seats for $4,500.
Mazda provided the Miata with an updated 2.0-liter inline-four engine in 2022 that offered the car 181 horsepower. This lets the manual-equipped car speed up to 60 speeds in 5.7 seconds during our tests. In the test we conducted of the brand new car in the year 2022 we noted that the manual with six speeds as well as the tweaked manual to match the model year it moved “through the H-pattern with a bit more finesse than before.”
