2022 Genesis G70 – Although it was open to interpretation I took it to mean an indication of a calamity when an earthquake struck our area at the exact time that the Genesis representative brought a brand new 2022 G70 car to my front door to give me a socially-distracted first drive.
The obvious answer is not one of the above. The quake was quite moderate. Furthermore, it is a new model, the 2022 Genesis is strikingly modern visually, especially intending to make it more in line with the style and design found on other new models made by the Korean automaker such as its G80 car, GV80 SUV, and the upcoming G70 crossover, it’s not a major departure from the norm either. Like the previous models, it comes with a great quality of comfort and luxury inside. And, just as before the Sport version I drove comes with a motor that is full of grit and an athletic look. There are some improvements but they’re not as significant as earthquake-inducing.
2022 Genesis G70 Review
The biggest shift has to be with the company’s attitude regarding its name. Its Hyundai spinoff, which is now an individual brand, has from its beginning struggled to maintain insignificance compared to the bigger brands from Germany. It is now attempting to advertise its existence more prominently than ever before. Perhaps they’re bored of being repeatedly asked “What make is this car?”. So you’ll find large GENESIS letters on the rear, just under the small spoiler instead of the previously difficult-to-read winged logo (still located on the hood’s front) with almost none of the clutter that distracts from the brand name.
On the front, the grille has been updated and its g-matrix design is repeated on specific elements inside. There are also quad lamps, which are an important element of Genesis its updated athletic style design. The fascia has a large opening, which is flanked with two small ones similar to the previous model, but now bigger. The result is that the Genesis car is more prominent on the roads regardless of whether you’re behind or directly in front of it. In terms of its design, for its shape, the G70 is a fusion of the horizontal line of two lines (top as well as the bottom) which contribute to the muscular appearance in the style. Two side air extractors are specifically designed to increase the flow of air, and therefore efficiency. The latest G70 also features upgraded wheels.
Genesis brought some improvements and enhancements to the interior, too specifically the display screen of the driver. If you’ve seen the screen for the new GV80 model this is the same. New connectivity options are available and the multimedia system can be accessed through the 10.25-inch screen that is situated on the console in the middle The interface is an absolute marvel of quality, speed, and responsiveness. The wireless charging pad for smartphones is also updated to be able to handle larger phones because these things are always expanding.
Making it move is a matter of choosing one of two engines depending on the model you pick from the simple offerings (a Genesis trademark). Both aren’t brand new however, both are great. The base model has a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine (252 HP and 226 lb-ft torque) and a 3.3L dual-turbo V6 (365 HP and 376 lb.-ft of torque) is a beast. Our test vehicle came in one of the G70 Sport with that V6 engine. The models that are available in Canada are straight out of in the package with four-wheel drive.
2022 Genesis G70 Price & Release Date
Pricing is equally straightforward. The trims include three for small engines (Select, Advanced, and Prestige) and three with the larger mill (Advanced, Sport, and the limited-run Launch Edition). The price ranges from $45,000 to $61,000. That’s all you have to be aware of. There’s no limit to the number of options, packages, and other items that could cause the cost of the final bill to soar.
