2022 BMW i4 M50 – The mere sight of the i4 M50 does not reveal its importance. There’s nothing to differentiate it from the similar-sized 4-series Gran Coupe four-door it’s based on. It’s the first BMW EV to carry the famous M label, even though it’s an M50 moniker and not an official M.
2022 BMW i4 M50 Review
The i4 is awarded the M badge as well because its range and power are vastly superior to BMW’s earlier offerings under the i-subbrand. The i4 has identical 255 horsepower front motor and 308-hp rear motors like the iX model but has an increased peak power of 536 horsepower, and 586 pounds of torque. This is due to a battery being smaller in capacity but is more powerful in its output. It has much more powerful than M3 and M4 Competitors models. Pressing the go pedal will deliver rapid and immediate acceleration, causing the front of the car to go up explosively when the i4 accelerates forward. Pressing both pedals down while stopped will activate the launch control, which is when it causes the motors to be energized, creating the impression that the car is pounding away at the limit. The acceleration to 60 mph is anticipated to be around three seconds and as fast as an M3/M4.
2022 BMW i4 M50 Pricing
The i4’s $66,895 base price is a bit of a bargain within the BMW lineup. That’s less than what you’ll spend for the M3’s base. It also comes with a $335-hp $56,385 eDrive40 version with the identical 80.7-kWh battery capacity.
Feature
The audio component is a whirring soundtrack which’s tone fluctuates as the speed increases and it gets more pronounced and less soft based on the speed of acceleration or deceleration. Select the Sport mode, and the sound becomes loud. Turning it off has us amazed by the silence of the i4. There’s not a whine from the motors or the high-voltage electronics that typically come with EVs. This is among the quietest EVs we’ve driven.
Driving
The i4 is a whopping 1,000 pounds heavier than the all-wheel-drive M3, and the added weight isn’t apparent when driving. Weight distribution is leaning to the rear while the center of gravity sits 1.5 inches less than the 3-series. As with the 3-series model, the steering of the i4 is not as responsive. Most of the time, you can feel a massive grip from the 20-inch Pirelli Zero PZ4 elect tires. Like the iX model, a curved screen with two screens dominates the interior of the i4, a design that is expected to soon spread across all of the BMW lineups. Based on the speed at which it took in energy in a blast that took it from Munich towards the Bavarian Alps and back, the i4 isn’t going to travel more than 200 miles. On the other hand, indeed, a Tesla Model 3 Performance, its most obvious competition isn’t much better.
