2022 Acura NSX Type S – In order to celebrate the departure of an era of second-generation famous NSX middle-engine sporting cars, Acura is launching the new Type S variant for 2022 that debuted during the Monterey Car Week festivities. Each 2022 NSX is going to be a Type S, and Acura claims it will build only 350 of them worldwide 300 of them will be destined to the U.S. The Type S is available for purchase today.

This also marks the conclusion of the road of the second generation NSX that debuted for the 2017 model year. According to the Type S press release, Acura director Jon Ikeda says, “We’re already exploring what the next generation of sports cars should be in the coming electrified era,” which suggests that there won’t be any immediate successor.

Its Type S gains 27 hp to a hefty 600 and boosts 16 lb-ft torque up to 492. These are the combined horsepower for the dual-turbo 3.5-liter V-6, which is accompanied by three electric motors, two of which provide power to the front axle and the third one that operates alongside the engine. The output of the 75-degree-V-6 is increased by 520 to 500 horsepower by the use of turbos with larger engines that can provide the equivalent of 16.1 Psi boost. At $171,495, the Type S is even $12,000 higher than the NSX. But this Type S gains a standard carbon-fiber roof that was previously available for $6000. The most expensive option available for the Type S comes in the form of the 13,000-pound Lightweight option that reduces weight by weight by 58 pounds using carbon-ceramic brake rotors, as well as carbon-fiber engine cover and interior trim.
